The Ice Box of South Bend, a double rink facility, will be hosting its Ninth Regional Sr. Hockey Tournament, “The Ice Breaker,” on the 16th – 18th of January 2009.  

$700 Team Fee includes:

·         3 Games + Championship Game for top two teams in each Division.

·         Player of the game awards for each game of the tourney.

·         Division Winner Awards.

 No verbal commitments will be accepted.  Payments and Rosters should be mailed no later than 12/18/08.  Payments are non-refundable if your vacancy can’t be filled.

The Ice Breaker Tourney

Dates:              January 16-18, 2009

Location:        The Ice Box, Walnut, South Bend, IN          

                        Located a few miles south and west of downtown South Bend.

                        Directions and maps can be found at the www.Arenamaps.com website.

 Entry Fee:      $700/team (US).

 Format:          Open Division, 21 and older, No minors.  No exceptions.

            2 Central Divisions, 30 and older, may have (2) players 5yrs younger.

            2 Senior Divisions, 40 and older, may have (2) players 5yrs younger.

·         There will be a minimum of (4) four teams per division.

·         The two teams with the best record in each division will play a Championship Game. 

Once the tournament is filled, additional applications and checks will be returned promptly.  A letter will be forwarded to confirm your team’s acceptance along with the tournament schedule and a complete list of tournament rules. 

The earliest game is 5:00 pm on Friday, January 16th.  The last game played will begin no later than 2:30 pm on Sunday, January 18th. 

 Hospitality:

 The Holiday Inn City Center (574) 232-4694 is our preferred hotel for the Tournament.  They offer the Tournament Participants and their guests a discounted rate of $89.95.

This is an outstanding rate, about a 33% discount, a pretty good deal. 

 ***Team Captains:  If you can provide a Rooming List by the 7th of January the rate can be reduced to $75/room.  Contact Kim Whitaker at 574-323-2113 for more information.

 HICC is a downtown location with a close proximity to evening activities, The College Football Hall of Fame and the closest hotel to the rink.  There is a limited quantity of rooms available, so call in reservations early and indicate you are in the Ice Breaker Tournament.

 There are several other hotels located just north of downtown South Bend on US931 and are within a 15 minute drive to the Ice Box.

1.       The top seeding factors on each team will be added to create a team seeding factor.

2.       Players whose seeding factor may increase the team’s total Seed Factor may not be added to the team without the permission of the Tournament Director.

3.       Game schedules cannot be completed until all seeding sheets have been received.

4.       All team seeding information will be provided to team reps. upon registration at the Tournament.

Ice Breaker Senior Hockey Tourney Rules & Regulations

 1.                  All players will be required to sign a “Waiver and Release of Liability Form.”

 2.                  South Bend Men’s Senior League rules will apply.

 3.                  No alcohol will be permitted on (or in) the Bench.

 4.                  Home teams will wear white jerseys unless the Visiting team is without darks.

 5.                  Each participating team shall declare and report all players who will play in the tourney on the supplied Team Roster sheet.  Any proposed changes from the initial and/or revised and approved Team Roster for the tourney entry must be reviewed and approved by the Tournament Director prior to taking the ice.  Forfeiture shall occur if a team is found to have played a player who is ineligible.

 6.                  To be eligible for the Championship game a player’s name must appear on the Team Roster and he must have played in at least one of his teams 3 prior games.

 7.                  Reference may be made to the Team Roster entry form for age group clarification.  Be prepared for individual age verification checks.  A team found in default will be allowed to complete their three regular scheduled games, but they will each be scored as 1-0 forfeit losses.

 8.                  At times, entries to the tournament result in an uneven number of teams in various age categories.  In this case we will utilize the “Seeding Charts” to place teams within age divisions where they will be most compatible and competitive.

 9.                  All teams must be ready to start on time or the game may be forfeited.

 10.              (3) Eighteen minute running periods.  Clock stops in the final two minutes of the third period if there is a two or less goal differential.

 11.              Offside players may “tag-up” to avoid whistle.

 12.              No checking, any violation will be a two minute penalty.

 13.              Penalties:         Minor Penalty--------- 2 Minutes

Major Penalty--------- 5 Minutes

Misconduct Penalty-- 5 Minutes

Match Penalty-------- 5 Minutes 

14.              Any single player with 3 penalties in one game will be ejected from that game

 15.              Fighting will be an immediate ejection from the remainder of the tourney.

 16.              Proof of Insurance must be shown at the time of check-in.

 17.              In a running clock situation, a penalized player must remain in the box and wait for a face-off to return to the game if a penalty expires during a stoppage of play.

 18.              Zero Tolerance Policy will be enforced.  The referee’s decision is final.  We are asking for discipline and cooperation from everyone involved to make this tournament a success.  These ground rules will be strictly enforced by the referees and if violated, are subject to a bench minor penalty in the form of unsportsmanlike conduct.

 19.              Players must wear helmets.  Half shields for face protection strongly encouraged.

 20.              Each team is responsible for the medical care and insurance related accidents involving their players.

 21.              Each team is required to clean their bench and locker room following each game.  Please return all locker room keys following the game.

 22.              Scheduling, officiating, and all issues surrounding the tournament are at the discretion of the tournament director and common sense.  The tournament director will also be considered the final arbitrator in any disagreement.

 23.              Team Standings:

A.        Seeding Method for the All Divisions:        

·         2 points for a win

·         1 point for a tie

·         After 3 games the top two point-getters will play in the Championship game.   

B.        In the event of a tie in Standings and Points for All Divisions:

·         Division Leaders will be determined by total points.  If tied then:

·         The 1st criteria shall be head to head.

·         The 2nd criteria greatest goal spread.

·         The 3rd criteria least goals allowed.

·         Still tied?  Last Criteria will be the first goal scored between the tied teams. 

C.        For the championship games each Division:

If the score is tied at the end of regulation…

·         A 3 on 3, Five-minute Sudden Death Overtime will be played. 

·         Still tied?   A second 3 on 3, Five-minute Sudden Death Overtime. 

·         Still tied?  A 3-man Shootout with additional shooters added one at a time until the tie has been broken.
